Understanding How Dental Insurance Works

Dental insurance is focused on helping you pay for preventive care so that you can avoid costly dental procedures all together. Hence, preventive services such as cleanings are fully or mostly covered under a typical insurance plan. Of course, you can still expect to receive some coverage in the event that you need restorative care or emergency dental treatment, but you will have to keep your deductible (the amount you pay before your coverage starts) in mind.

What Your Dental Insurance Plan Covers

Most insurance plans follow what is known as a 100-80-50 structure. Regular checkups and cleanings as well as certain other preventive services are typically covered 100%. Basic treatments such as fillings receive 80% coverage, while more advanced procedures like crown placement usually receive around 50% coverage. Teeth whitening and other cosmetic treatments are elective procedures, so they usually don’t fall under dental insurance. Your specific plan might be slightly different, so check with your carrier first.

Our In-Network PPO Dental Insurance Providers

Being in-network with a dental insurance provider means that we have agreed on a set rate for our services. As a result, the amount you save by choosing our dental office increases. We can still file claims for out-of-network plans, and our team can clarify what benefits you’re entitled to if you call our dental office.
